ICT Skills Across the Curriculum

Dolphin teaches ICT in context. Pupils are learning ICT skills while at the same time producing pieces of work related to other curricular areas. Units of teaching, while loosely grouped according to level of skill development, can be tackled in whatever order will best allow integration across the curriculum.

Several different programmes of study, showing how this can be done, are given in the teachers manual, which can be found within the online materials.

In addition to this, the sample Curriculum Year Plan (MS Word document) gives one example of how a Scottish primary school is using the materials to integrate with work across the curriculum.

Here are some examples:

Project folder covers

2D and 3D shape activities

Mind maps

Newspaper pages

Stories and Poems

Logo patterns

The Dolphin System is cross referenced throughout to the English QCA scheme of work and the Scottish 5-14 guidelines. Full information on this is given in the teachers' manual.

“Dolphin encourages cross-curricular teaching because of the variety of topics covered.”

Rose Dickinson, ICT Co-ordinator, Kingshott School, Herts

"After completing a module in the Dolphin system, the children then proceed to activities based on the QCA recommendations for their year group. These activities are usually linked to other curricular subjects and support their work in the classroom. The children share their successes as well as assist each other along the way. Experience with the Dolphin system has given them confidence and independence as well as basic ICT knowledge."

Cathy Taylor, ICT Co-ordinator, St Bernard's Prep School, Slough
