Jackie Clayton, ICT Co-ordinator, St Mary's Catholic First School, Dorchester
At St Mary's we were looking for something to help the K.S.2 pupils and
teachers with I.C.T. The teachers felt that they needed support in knowing
where to begin and which skills to teach first. The pupils needed to practice
skills in a fun, but thorough way. It was hair-pulling time, until we heard
about the Dolphin System. It seemed as if our dreams had been answered! We
were sceptical at first , would we be able to set it up and run it? Would it
become just another chore? I can assure you that our fears were ungrounded.
The system takes a little setting up but the instructions were easy to follow
and unconfident adults succeeded. The children liked the system and learnt
from it - the fact that they were learners and teachers really appealed to
them. The learning steps were well thought out and planned and were the steps
that you would have wanted to create yourself - if you'd had the time and
skills. As an I.C.T. co-ordinator it was a godsend , unconfident members of
staff could learn with the children in an unthreatening way. We found it an
extremely valuable tool and would thoroughly recommend it. The biggest
accolade I can give it is that we no longer use it now because the staff have
become confident enough to take the skills learnt and use them in different
ways. Thank you Dolphin - you are worth every penny.
