Dolphin is designed to work with a number of well-known software packages. Many of these are likely to be on your computer(s) already.
- Word or Textease for word processing and desk-top publishing
- Paint or Dazzle for painting and drawing
- Excel for spreadsheet work
- Textease Database or Information Magic for database work
- Textease or PowerPoint for multimedia work
Materials to support other common programs are under development.
It is not necessary to have all the above software at the outset, since many topics can be omitted if the required software is not available. The minimum requirements to get started would be:
- a web browser (Internet Explorer Version 4 or later)
- a painting program (eg Paint or Dazzle)
- a word processor (eg Textease or MS Word)
Other software and equipment is referred to as the learners progress up the steps on the Ladder of Success.
The Dolphin System control panel allows teachers and parents to select alternative helps within the materials so that children can learn using the software that they are already familiar with.
