The Dolphin System can be accessed directly from the internet or installed on your own computer(s). If you have elected to access the system directly from the internet no installation is required. Simply click on the link where it says 'Logon' above, and enter the Licence Number and password that you received in your licence letter. (The licence number will begin with DOL----- followed by 5 digits. Note that the DOL must be in capitals.)
If you have purchased a CD for installation on to your own system, please follow the instructions below. If you wish to print these for reference, click on this page with the right hand mouse button and select 'Print'.
Local Installation
The Dolphin System is designed to run from a Microsoft web server running on your computer or a network server. Because of this, the installation procedure is slightly intricate.
Some of the steps require technical knowledge. It is strongly recommended that you have a network technician to hand when carrying out the installation.
System Requirements
- Microsoft Windows 98, NT, 2000 or XP
- 128MB RAM on client machines / 512MB RAM on network server
- 70MB of Hard Disk Space
- Internet Explorer Version 4 or later
- Internet Information Server (IIS) or Microsoft Personal Web Server (PWS)
To get the greatest educational benefit from the Dolphin System, it should be installed on a network server so that all users can have access to the same central database. However, it can also be installed and run successfully on a stand-alone machine.
Summary of installation procedure
- Set up Internet Information Server (IIS) or Microsoft Personal Web Server (PWS)
- Install the Dolphin System files
- Set access permissions (NTFS)
- Create a link or shortcut to the web-server address of the main page.
Full step by step instructions on installation are given in the setup program on the CD.
